You can also learn more about West Bridgford Advice Centre in our regular feature ‘Spotlight on…’ and find out about RAN’s plans for online training.

RAN to speak at Rushcliffe Community Cohesion Event

PosterJuan Ramirez, Consultant Adviser at RAN (Rushcliffe Advice Network), will be talking about the work of our advice centres at Rushcliffe CVS’ event ‘Respect Rushcliffe’.

The event takes place on Wednesday 20th April, 9.30am-2pm, at The Grange Hall, Radcliffe on Trent.  Anyone working or living in Rushcliffe Borough is welcome to book a place.

Along with representatives from FRU (Free Representation Unit) and PSU (Personal Support Unit), Juan will be discussing the changing face of welfare reform.

This will be followed by a talk from Lorinda Liversidge, Nottingham County Council, on Gypsy and Traveller communities.  There will then be workshops and a free lunch.

The aim of the event is to explore diversity, breaking down barriers and the local response to providing support and there are still free places available.

Book your free place here and we look forward to seeing you!

Happy Easter!

Volunteer Advisers Needed!

Cotgrave and Keyworth Advice Centres are on the look-out for new advisers to join their friendly and experienced teams.

What our advisers do

Advisers help clients to sort out issues with consumer rights, benefits, housing, tax, pensions and family problems.  They also help them to complete forms such as PIP claims and blue badge applications.

Full training is given

There is no need to have any relevant experience, as full training is given.  New advisers also shadow more experienced colleagues before seeing clients on their own.

What you do need are the following general skills:

  • Good at listening
  • Great people skills
  • To be open-minded and non-judgmental
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • Enjoy helping people
  • Basic computer skills

Why volunteer with RAN?

Previous and current volunteers have found being an adviser extremely rewarding and a lot of people continue volunteering in the role for many years.  As well as helping members of the public who are often in great need of support, you would enjoy the benefits of working within a supportive and encouraging team.

Other opportunities

If you enjoy getting involved in events, there are also opportunities to spread the word about the work of the advice centres and to help recruit more volunteers.  Members of the network sometimes run stands at local shows and fairs and enjoy the opportunity to meet people from other charitable organisations.

Vacancies can also arise for other roles within the centres, such as that of a secretary/administrator, treasurer or trustee.  Full descriptions of these roles are available on our volunteering page or by contacting the RAN Project Team.
